We have observed with the BeppoSAX satellite the quiescent counterpart of the Soft Gamma-ray Repeater SGR 1806–20. Observations performed in October 1998 and in March 1999 showed that this pulsar continued its long term spin-down trend at an average rate of ∼8 10 −11 s s −1 while its flux and spectrum remained remarkably constant between the two observations, despite the soft gamma-ray bursting activity that occurred in this period. We also reanalyzed archival ASCA data, that when compared with the new BeppoSAX observations , show evidence for a long term variation in luminosity.

Precise Chandra Localization of the Soft Gamma - ray Repeater SGR 1806 − 20

We present observations of the Soft γ-ray Repeater SGR 1806−20 taken with the Chandra X-ray Observatory. We identify the X-ray counterpart of SGR 1806−20 based on detection of 7.5-s pulsations. Using three unrelated X-ray sources (and USNO stars) as position references, we are able to determine that the SGR is at α2000 = 18 0839. 32 and δ2000 = −2

We discuss observations of the soft gamma repeater SGR 1806–20 during the RXTE Target of Opportunity observations made in November 1996. During the ∼ 50 ksec RXTE observation, HEXTE (15− 250 keV) detected 17 bursts from the source, with fluxes ranging from 3× 10 to 2.2× 10 ergs cm s (20− 100 keV). We obtained spectra for the brighter HEXTE by fitting thermal bremsstrahlung and power law functio...

Precise Localization of the Soft Gamma Repeater SGR 1627−41 and the Anomalous X-ray Pulsar AXP 1E1841−045 with Chandra

We present precise localizations of AXP 1E1841−045 and SGR 1627−41 with Chandra. We obtained new infrared observations of SGR 1627−41 and reanalyzed archival observations of AXP 1E1841−045 in order to refine their positions and search for infrared counterparts. A faint source is detected inside the error circle of AXP 1E1841−045. In the case of SGR 1627−41, several sources are located within th...

We present K -band (2.12 μm) imaging observations of the SGR 1806–20 field taken during its very active phase in mid 2004, which reveal brightening of sources within the Chandra X-ray error circle when compared with earlier images obtained in 2002. One source brightened by more than a factor of 2, and so we consider this to be the probable infrared counterpart for SGR 1806–20. The other two sou...
